Never one to be a vegan stereotype, I met a couple of mates, Rachel and Simo, in Peckham for a spot of rooftop yoga.
Yeah, that’s a G&T in my hand.
We’re Geordie, it’s just how we do.
After all that
gin health, we decided that we’d earned a nice bit of vegan junk so headed along to nearby Taco Queen.
Taco Queen is not entirely vegan so it’s a good place to take your meaty/veggie/pescy friends. The vegan options on offer, however, are a damn delight.
Crispy Tofu – Fried Tofu with a lemongrass, ginger and coriander salsa, sriracha miso mayo, carrot & daikon pickle and fresh chilli.
I find tofu a tough beast to tame but these morsels were perfect. Crunchy outer, fluffy inner. Basically little clouds of pure joy. The flavours from the herbs, pickle and sauce brought the phat taste bass to the mouth party.
Battered Avocado – Cornflake battered avocado with coconut bacon, chipotle mayo & pink pickles.
Battered avo, now there’s an idea. A fine one it was too! Again, the contrast of the cornflake crunch and the smooth avo, pure genius. We have another flavour fiesta going on with the coconut bacon, sriracha mayo and pickle. 🎉
I know what you’re thinking and, no, I didn’t pantone match my nail polish to the the pink pickle. 💅 💁♀️
Since we’re on the subject of partying, if you’re gonna get really razzed you need…
Just drop everything right now and look at these outrageous wonders. These battered beauts were so decadently naughty that I thought I might get arrested just for looking at them. If you put one thing in your mouth this weekend, make sure it’s these heavenly little lads here.
The internet claims that Taco Queen serve the best tacos in our dear old London Town.
I’m not going to argue.
Official DV Rating: 4 and a half out of 5 Aubergines 😘
