by CHLOE – probably one of the most hyped newcomers to the London vegan food scene.
They gained fame in the US and decided to hop across the pond in an attempt to break the UK with their celebrity endorsed comfort food.
If there was a prize for most instagrammable vegan restaurant in London, I’m sure by CHLOE would have it in the bag. Everything from the packaging design to toilet mirrors were prime fodder for the ‘gram.
The menu was pretty extensive. We were dazzled by the promise of everything from Burgers to Shepherds Pie.
Ludz went for the Fish n’ Chips from the special ‘British’ section of the menu – Crispy Tofu, Chips, Mushy Peas, Tartare Sauce.
The tofish was good. I did prefer my fires to the chunky chips. I think most would disagree but give me a big dollop of dirty chip shop mushers over fancy mushy peas anyday!
My burger senses told me to try the The Guac Burger – Black Bean-Quinoa-Sweet Potato Patty, Corn Salsa, Onion, Guac, Tortilla Strips, Chipotle Aioli in Whole Grain Bun with a side of Air Baked Fries.
If you’re a lover of guac this is probably your boy. It was absolutely loaded with the green stuff. It engulfed the patty like a raging avocado sea.
The fries were your friendly neighbourhood fast food side, though air fried so I guess that makes them health. The beetroot ketchup scared me a little, I didn’t feel quite ready for it. The chipotle mayo was amazing though!
We also had a lil Mac n’ Cheese – Sweet Potato-Cashew Cheese Sauce, Shitake Bacon, Almond Parmesan.
It had a great texture, liked the addition of the bacon bits, it was a rich one though so I couldn’t eat a whole lot of it.
So was it up to the hype? Hmm, well, I thought it was pretty good but a little on the steep side dollar wise. So many cheaper independent UK traders are so incredible that this big US fish has tough competition.
Ludz said it was like the 5 Guys of the vegan world but a bit pricier. I’ve never eaten there so you guys will have to let me know if you agree!
