Part two of our Budapest to Vienna train trip. 🇭🇺🚂 ➡️🇦🇹 We hurtled towards the Austrian capital in a first class carriage with a beyond basic picnic. Like most vegan picnicing in the wild if you don’t pre-prepare, prepare to eat hummus. Lots and lots of hummus.
We arrived hungry. It was late and, I’m not ashamed to say it, Vapiano swooped in once again and saved our lives.
📍 Europaplatz 1, 1150 Wien, Austria
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Vapiano and they have some great vegan options (although the arrabiata ALWAYS gets it). Chains aren’t as exciting as new discoveries but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do! 🤷
📍Salzgries 9, 1010 Wien, Austria
First stop on our swift vegan sweep of Vienna was a cute little spot called Veggiezz. This was one of five locations in Vienna and the menu was huuuuuuggggee. It was kinda overwhelming I’m not going to lie!
After MUCH deliberation, I went for the Smoky Burger – A classic Bun, Seitan Patty with Lollo Rosso Salad, Balsamic Onions, Tomatoes, Pickles, Sautéed Mushrooms, Vegan Cheddar Cheese & BBQ sauce.
Ludz chose the Pesto Basilikum Pasta – Pasta smothered in Homemade Pesto with Fresh Basil, Toasted Pine Nuts, Almonds and Vegan Parmesan.
This place has something for everyone. Ludz’s pasta was fresh and pretty health, while my burger was drippy and a bit naughty. Absolutely cracking fries too!
📍Rechte Wienzeile 1B, 1040 Wien, Austria
I had my heart set on a big old curry wurst while in Vienna and heard that Voodies did a rather good vegan version. Sadly, on arrival, I was told it was a special which had now finished but I thought a cheeky hot dog wouldn’t be the wurst idea…
Their menu features fast food classics such as Burgers and ‘Not Dogs’ alongside Chilli and Leaves.
I went for the Vienna Dog because when in Vienna and that – Seitandog, Tomatoes, Crispy Onion, Mustard, Pickles, Mayonaise and Ketchup (ALL the wet).
I usually wouldn’t eat anything with a face so it was kinda tough chowing down on this dog. I mean, just look at this little legend!
Ludz had eaten naughty food earlier so picked up a portion of the Real Dutch Fries.
I also grabbed a curry dip so I could dunk my dog and live my curry wurst dream. A great little place for a quick dirty eat.
We only had a day in Vienna so didn’t have the chance to check out all the vegans. Would love to head back and tick a few more places off the list! Where’s your favourite Viennese spot?
